Empowering Kanyaruchinya: Raising Awareness on Statelessness and Its Impact

Under the funding from international, national, and local partners, the Academic Jury of Law Organization executed activities titled: “Community Awareness on Statelessness and Its Consequences in the Kanyaruchinya Displacement Camp” over a one-week period.

These activities aimed to educate the entire community, victims of armed conflicts, on the basic concepts of statelessness and its consequences. Statelessness is a situation where no country in the world recognizes you as a citizen under its laws, making a stateless person someone who does not possess any nationality.

Several consequences are associated with being stateless, including the loss of nationality, social benefits, and more.

In terms of future prospects, the Academic Jury of Law Organization plans to expand these awareness activities on statelessness to reach not only all communities living in displacement camps but also those in the North Kivu Province in particular and the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) in general.

The Academic Jury of Law Organization remains one of the organizations established at the heart of Africa, the world, and particularly the DRC, serving as a model in actions to protect children at risk of statelessness.
